Most endodontists either drown in financial detail or avoid it entirely. The useful middle is a short, repeatable monthly review of the few numbers that actually move the practice.
Number one is collections against production for the month and year to date. This tells you whether the work you did is turning into money, and whether the trend is holding.
Number two is overhead as a percentage of collections, ideally broken into staff, facility, and supplies. You are checking that each stays in its benchmark band and catching drift early.
Number three is cash: what is in the account, what is owed to you in receivables, and what you owe out in the next 60 days. This is the number that keeps profit and bank balance from surprising you.
Number four is owner take-home, salary plus distributions, tracked so you know what the practice is actually paying you rather than guessing at year end.
Twenty minutes a month with those four numbers replaces the annual scramble and the vague sense that something is off. Practices that do it make decisions on evidence; practices that skip it make them on feel.
